We are implementing a number of exciting initiatives as part of our commitment to sustainability, some of which are outlined below:
Cleaning Products
We take pride in our cleaning performance in the Centre. Where possible, Cairns Central strives to use environmentally friendly cleaning products.
Borewater Supply
To cut down on water use, borewater is extracted from two bores located under the Premises. Borewater is currently used for toilet flushing and within our cooling towers.
NABERS Ratings
The owners of Cairns Central are committed measuring the energy and water performance of its assets using the National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS). Every year, NABERS Energy and Water ratings are calculated. The most recent ratings for Cairns Central are 4.5 Star NABERS Energy (good performance) and 3 Stars NABERS Water (average performance).
Energy and Water Efficiency
In 2020 a detailed energy and water efficiency audit of the Centre was undertaken. Several initiatives were identified through the audit and an Energy and Water Efficiency Plan has been developed. The plan details what measures will give us the most energy savings down to the smaller items. We intend to roll out as many measures over the current year to significantly reduce our consumption. Other measures that are not feasible over the current year will be implemented within the next few years. Reducing our energy and consumption is a strong focus at Cairns Central.
